How To Stop The Swollen Belly ? Here Are The Foods To Avoid!

An Italian study presented at the Expo 2015 Milano analyzes a phenomenon that affects even those who are not overweight. To combat this nuisance, which is often accompanied by pain and irritation, it is sufficient to limit foods that ferment in the stomach. The trouble is that the list is very long and contains lots of fruit and vegetables.

STOP eating foods that ferment in the body. That’s the only way  how to deflate the stomach according to a study presented at the Expo 2015 in Italy. The study has shown that with just simply eliminating foods that cause an excessive fermentation we can obtain a decrease of the swelling of about 50%, which, after 16 months, reaches 66%. Too bad that the list of these foods is very long and includes food that are recommended for disease prevention.

Foods that “swell”. So what are the foods to avoid to have a flat stomach? They are the foods FODMAP (stands for fermentable Oligo-, Di- and Mono-saccharides and polyols), with high-capacity fermentation. These include foods containing oligosaccharides, such as legumes, some vegetables (such as artichokes, broccoli, garlic), fruits (such as persimmon and watermelon) and cereals (wheat and rye), some elements such as fructose (such as apple, pear, peach, mango ), lactose (milk and soft cheeses and fresh), and finally polyols, contained in fruits (such as cherries, plums), vegetables (such as cauliflower, mushrooms) and sweeteners (mannitol, sorbitol and xylitol). “The fermentation of food, in certain susceptible people – explains Corazziari – can cause an accumulation of gas, with a concomitant increased flow of water, causing distension of the intestinal lumen.”

Food that should be used when having a swollen belly

  • Chose from cereals, spelled and gluten-free products
  • Give preference to hard cheeses and cured, and the lactose-free milk, soy or rice
  • Always try to eat more fruit and in particular banana, blueberry, grapefruit, kiwi, tangerine, lemon, orange, grape, raspberry, strawberry
  • As well,make space for the vegetables, in particular celery, peppers, eggplant, lettuce, green beans and pumpkin
  • Eat more tomatoes
  • Use sweeteners such as sucrose, glucose, maple syrup and sweeteners that do not end in ‘-ol’

 

Food that should be limited in the diet of people suffering from swollen belly

  • Among the cereals, limit the consumption of wheat and rye (bread, pasta, couscous, crackers, cookies)
  • Try to reduce the intake of apples, pears, apricots, cherries, peaches, mango, watermelon, persimmons, plums, prunes
  • Try to avoid sweeteners such as: honey, fructose, and corn syrup, sorbitol, mannitol, xylitol
  • Limit the intake of milk, soft and young cheeses (like cottage cheese)
  • Try to limit the consumption of: artichokes, asparagus, beets, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, fennel, garlic, shallots, mushrooms, peas
  • Try to eat less chickpeas, lentils, beans, broad beans
